The Power of Art and Science: Utilizing a special fusion of art and natural science, the central focus of GMEA’s initial project is the two-year building of a collaborative public art installation. The first exhibition venue will be at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences‘ facility in Boothbay, Maine.
The Installation: A 12’x25’x30′ public sculpture/film Installation – a cross-section of atmosphere, sky, ocean featuring a 24 foot North Atlantic Right Whale, and a selection of key endangered and threatened marine life from phytoplankton to fishermen and Native Americans. The sculpture materials: 95% marine debris, recycled, repurposed.
The Installation will be designed and built by a collaborative team of over a hundred professional artists, educators, and students from over ten Maine schools – Middle-school through College level. Included disciplines: science education, sculpture, painting, sound design, lighting, film, V.R., and when the installation is in place, a series of special arts and science programming.
